U.K.-based SportsShoes.com reported revenues increased 20 percent in the first quarter ended May 31 to £83.8 million ($107 mm). The online seller, established in 1982, said the growth reflected the acquisition of 140,000 new customers during the period and orders from 200,000 repeat customers.

SportsShoes.com attributed its growth to successful running shoe launches, including the Nike Vaporfly 3, Asics Gel-Nimbus 25 and Hoka Clifton 9, and activations, including its Podium 5K Breaking 10 event. SportsShoes.com also partnered with Black Trail Runners, District Run Crew and Snappy Runners.

SportsShoes.com managing director Brett Bannister said, “Outstanding product launches are absolutely central to what we do and they are key to our strategy going forward. At the same time, our inventive activation initiatives have had an excellent positive impact. In particular, they connect us and our brand partners with our athlete community, from the elite to the casual runner. We know that if we continue to concentrate on combining outstanding product launches with high-profile and empowering activation initiatives, increased sales and customer numbers will follow.”

SportsShoes.com also reported recently opening a 10,750-square-foot creative and tech hub adjacent to its Shipley headquarters and warehouse facilities as part of its ongoing expansion plan. The space, called Unit 2, can accommodate 100 people over two floors for the company’s digital, marketing, commercial, and management teams.
