Backcountry announced a new venture with Marty’s Ski & Board Shop, a full-service ski and snowboard tuning and repair shop based in Park City, UT, to open this fall in the same location as Marty’s is today.

Its founder, Chip Bullen, will remain involved in the business.

Founded by Bullen and his wife, the retailer has won awards and lifelong customers due to the owner’s business acumen and customer service. The store’s namesake is Bullen’s mother who is part of a legendary Utah ski family.

As a company headquartered in Park City, Backcountry’s leadership has long respected Bullen and the business he has built. This relationship led to a collective realization of the potential to better serve the Park City community by joining forces.

“When I first learned Backcountry was opening a retail store across the street from Marty’s, I was obviously concerned about the potential impacts it would have on my business and customers,” said Chip Bullen. “Once I got to know the brand and the people behind it, I realized we were both dedicated to creating a best-in-class customer experience and a positive impact on the Park City community. I’m excited to see what we will accomplish together.”

In this new venture, Marty’s will provide the same services it has in the past under the same name, and Bullen will work as a consultant to Backcountry guiding the operations of the store.

Marty’s Ski and Board Shop is currently undergoing renovation and will reopen this fall.
