Converse is expected to name Geoff Cottrill, VP-global entertainment at
Starbucks, as its new chief marketing officer, according to a report
from Brandweek. He will replace VP and global marketing director, Dave
Maddocks, who left the company over the summer.
Maddocks, who had been with Converse since 2001, helped reestablish the
brand with the hip hop/fashion crowd and also revived Converse's roster of
athletic endorsers to include Dwayne Wade, Kirk Hinrich, Jameer Nelson,
Andre Miller and rookie, Acie Law.
At Starbuck, Cottrill has been responsible entertainment marketing
and product development programs, as well as the marketing and delivery
of entertainment products through Starbucks' various distribution
channels. He helped establish Starbucks' “Hear Music” program, which
includes branded CD compilations plus a 24-hour music channel on XM
Satellite Radio.
Prior to joining Starbucks in August 2005, he oversaw music, film, TV and
celebrity-driven activity at Coca-Cola for nine years. At Coke, he led
the global Harry Potter initiative, Powerade's Matrix tie-in and
various music executions. Cottrill also worked at Procter & Gamble
in various sales and marketing roles, dealing with brands such as
Folgers and Citrus Hill.
