The September 2018 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 919,979 represented a decrease of 9.7 percent compared to the September 2017 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1.02 million.
For comparison, the unadjusted September 2018 FBI NICS figure of 1.898 million reflects a 2.1 percent increase from the unadjusted FBI NICS figure of 1.86 million in September 2017.
The third quarter 2018 NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) figure of 2.71 million reflects a decrease of 8.1 percent compared to the 2.95 million figure for third quarter 2017.
The adjusted NICS data were derived by subtracting out NICS purpose code permit checks and permit rechecks used by states for CCW permit application checks as well as checks on active CCW permit databases. NSSF started subtracting permit rechecks in February 2016.
