Acushnet Company and Academy Sports & Outdoors have settled the lawsuit which Acushnet brought against Academy regarding the sale of counterfeit Titleist Pro V1 golf balls. The lawsuit was filed on April 11 after consumers complained to Acushnet that Pro V1 golf balls purchased at Academy did not appear to be genuine. Although full details of the settlement were not released, Acushnet did receive Academys cooperation in removing all counterfeit product from its shelves and in identifying all possible sources of the counterfeit product.
“We acted aggressively to address this situation and to protect our brands,” commented Joseph Nauman, Executive Vice President, Corporate and Legal of Acushnet Company. “We appreciate Academys prompt cooperation in resolving this issue. We also appreciate the actions of the consumers who have brought this and other similar situations to our attention.” Any consumer that believes they have purchased counterfeit Pro V1 product from Academy should promptly return it to Academy for a full refund.
The growing prevalence of counterfeit golf products in the market place emphasizes the need for consumers and retailers alike to deal only with authorized sellers of authentic product in order to protect themselves.
