Two former Adidas officials, James Gatto and Merl Code, and a former AAU coach, Christian Dawkins, have filed a motion to have charges against them related to the college basketball corruption dismissed, ESPN.com reports.

Lawyers for the three individuals argue their clients’ actions may have violated NCAA rules, but complied with federal laws and charges of wire fraud don’t hold up because universities, the alleged victims in the case, benefited from the schemes.

Gatto, Code and Dawkins were charged with conspiring to pay players’ families to ensure the athletes attended Adidas-sponsored schools and later become ambassadors for Adidas as NBA athletes.
