XeroShoes, a manufacturer of lightweight, flexible footwear, added slackline champion Mickey Wilson as its newest brand ambassador. Wilson will be on hand at the XeroShoes booth at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market for slackline conversation and tips.

Wilson made national news last week for his slackline-inspired ski lift rescue at Arapahoe Basin in Colorado for a friend whose backpack got tangled in the lift bar that left him dangling unconscious. He used his slackline agility and rapid reflexes to climb along the lift tower and slide himself 30 feet to reach his friend. He then caught a knife a ski patroller tossed him on the first attempt and successfully freed the friend, who is doing well today.

“I could not be prouder of Mickey and am beyond impressed at the evolution of his confidence since taking him to one of his first competitive events in 2011,” said Emilio Torres, VP of global sales and marketing for XeroShoes and a pioneer in developing slacklining as a legitimate competitive and recreational sport. “His bravery and instinct to do the best he could with what he had to work with and climb the narrow cables of the lift tower with little time to waste exemplifies the authenticity and spirit of the sport to push the limits of what we think we can achieve when we unify our minds and bodies.”

In 2015, Wilson took the title at the Red Bull Baylines, an innovative skacklining competition that transforms San Francisco’s signature network of overhead streetcar lines into a complex slackline course.
