Wilson Sporting Goods Co. announced that Tom Gruger has been promoted to vice president of global marketing, a newly created position designed to accelerate growth across all sport categories. Gruger was promoted to this position after serving six years as global marketing director for the Wilson Golf division.
“The creation of this position marks a new direction for the Wilson brand, and Tom is the ideal candidate to lead the charge,” said Chris Considine, president of Wilson Sporting Goods. “Tom has a deep understanding of the Wilson brand and its business categories, and he has more than 20 years of consumer marketing experience. It is this combination that will enable Tom to have an immediate impact as we launch aggressive marketing initiatives over the next 18-24 months and beyond.”
In his new role, Gruger will manage the Wilson brand position across diverse product categories and global markets as well as develop strategic global business initiatives to ensure continued profitable growth.
“Wilson makes the best performance sports equipment in the world with authenticity that cannot be matched,” said Gruger. “My job will be to work with each sport category to capture this authenticity, meet the needs of our target players and do so in creative ways that directly connect with consumers.”
Gruger holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Journalism from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and spent nine years with Titleist and FootJoy Worldwide before returning to Wilson, where he started his career. He currently resides in Evanston, Ill. with his wife Jennifer and his two children Henry and Clara.
