Walmart U.S. President and CEO John Furner announced in an employee memo that Seth Dallaire, the retailer’s chief revenue officer, was named chief growth officer for Walmart U.S. The memo also noted that its U.S. Chief Product Officer, Jon Alferness, is leaving the company.

As Walmart U.S.’s Chief Growth Officer, Dallaire will lead an expanded division that includes product, marketing and design teams.

“There are significant benefits of aligning capabilities that help us bring a better experience to life for customers. With that, we’ve decided to further align key capabilities under Seth’s leadership,” Furner said in the memo. “By appointing Seth as our chief growth officer, we are creating the ability to serve our customers uniquely and individually based on their lifestyles—enabling them to enjoy benefits we have built across the entire business.”

The U.S. marketing and design teams, led by Chief Marketing Officer William White and Senior Vice President of Design Valerie Casey, will also report to Dallaire. Furner said consolidating marketing into the new group headed by Dallaire would enable the team to “better tie customer growth and loyalty to financial outcomes while further capitalizing on data, customer insights and identity.” He added that bringing design under the new group will further support “impactful experiences for our omni customers, associates and partners.”

Alferness, whose responsibilities included elevating digital and physical experiences and capabilities for Walmart+ members and Walmart customers and employees, will stay in an advisory role at Walmart through the end of the year.

The product team will report directly to Dallaire until a successor is found.

Dallaire joined Walmart as chief product officer at the end of 2022. Before joining Walmart, he was the chief product officer and EVP of technology at Varo Bank. His previous employers include Lyft and Google.
