The Walking Company Holdings Inc. announced the completion of an 83,000-square-foot distribution center expansion in Lincolnton, NC, to bring the total location size to 312,000 square feet. The new facility will distribute footwear and accessories for all of the company’s key brands including ABEO footwear, Dansko, Ecco and Taos. The distribution center currently employs over 200 associates and will add an additional 45 jobs to the area.
A milestone for the company, the expansion was critical to meet the evolving increase of consumer demand for quality comfort footwear while accommodating rapid sales growth in the international market as well as through wholesale, e-commerce and over 180 Walking Company retail stores nationwide.
“We are excited to complete the expansion of our distribution center for improved efficiency throughout our infrastructure,” said Mike Grenley, chief operating officer at The Walking Company. “Remaining in the Lincolnton area allows us to support the local economy while staying close-by port to effectively serve our customers and stores around the country.”
The new distribution center will be fully functional by mid-October. Construction was handled by commercial contractor Choate Construction with conveyor systems installed and supplied by Piedmont Material Handling.
