Walden Kayaks was informed on November 24th that Banknorth, the companys principal source of financing, was unable to continue financing and the company would be forced to shut down by 5:00 on the same day. Walden Kayaks President, Jeffrey DeSantis, is hopeful that the company will find an investor within the paddlesports industry to keep Walden Kayaks mission alive.
Walden Kayaks has made great strides in producing high-quality recreational, sporting, and light touring kayaks using recycled/recyclable plastic. According to Bill Hearn, “The Walden Kayaks employees where responsible for a huge turn-around in the quality of the kayaks over the last 13 months, and they were responsible for creating a positive change in the company’s culture.” Walden Kayaks has remained committed to their original mission: to create easy to paddle affordable kayaks for people of all ages to get outdoors and explore their world.
Jennifer Hearn, Waldens spokesperson and PR director, told BOSS, “On a personal note, I have enjoyed acting as public relations director for Walden Kayaks. The paddlesports industry is such a closely woven group of canoe and kayak enthusiasts, and I appreciate rekindling paddling relationships and nurturing river conservation partnerships Please know that it has been my pleasure working with all of you. I remain committed to the promotion of paddlesports and protecting our waterways for today and future generations.”
