Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. reported net sales for the five-week period ending July 4, 2003, of $24.635 billion, an increase of 11.1 percent over the $22.164 billion in the similar period in the prior year.
Sales for the twenty-two week period were $101.957 billion, an increase of 10.2 percent over $92.495 billion in the similar period in the prior year.
On May 23, 2003, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. completed the sale of McLane Company, Inc. (“McLane”), then a wholly owned subsidiary, to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. The amounts disclosed above exclude McLane sales for all periods presented.
The Wal-Mart division’s sales for the five-week period were $16.697 billion, up 9.5 percent over sales of $15.242 billion in the similar prior-year period. The division’s sales for the twenty-two weeks of $69.239 billion were up 9.3 percent over the $63.339 billion in the similar prior-year period.
SAM’s CLUB sales for the five-week period were $3.380 billion, up 8.0 percent over sales of $3.131 billion in the similar prior-year period. Club sales for the twenty-two weeks of $13.995 billion were up 7.4 percent over the $13.035 billion in the similar prior-year period.
The International division’s sales for the five-week period were $4.559 billion, up 20.3 percent over sales of $3.790 billion in the similar prior-year period. The division’s sales for the twenty-two weeks of $18.724 billion were up 16.1 percent over the $16.121 billion in the similar prior-year period.
