Despite a lagging economy, most regions included in the report posted growth for August 2008. According to the report, national golf rounds played in the U.S. were up 4.4% in August 2008 vs. August 2007, bringing the year-to-date total to a decrease of 0.5% from last year’s overall results.


The largest increase in rounds played came from the East North Central region, which showed a 14% growth for the month. The mountain region reported the largest decline, with a 3% drop from last year’s August rounds.

 

Other regions that posted growth for the month include the Pacific (1.9%), West North Central (8.1%), South Central (3.3%), and Mid-Atlantic (1.9%). Other regions reporting a decline rounds were the South Atlantic (-2.1%) and New England (-2.5%).
