The Urban Fitness League (UFL), a new professional league launching in 2018 featuring extreme calisthenics athletes, announced its line-up and ticket availability for the special “UFL World Cup” event on the 4th of July in Coney Island.

The high-octane event will showcase the world’s best calisthenics athletes in an convergence of sport, style and music as the US team takes on the World team.

The UFL World Cup will be housed in the 5,000 seat, state-of-the-art, open air Ford Amphitheatre on the Coney Island boardwalk, which debuted to much fanfare last year. The showcase will feature a combination of freestyle competition and one-on-one battles where athletes will demonstrate their strength, agility and creativity on customized urban equipment. In addition to a spectacular demonstration of fitness and athleticism, the UFL World Cup will be hosted by actor/model/fitness enthusiast Tyson Beckford, and feature the music stylings of the nationally syndicated hip-hop sensation, D.J. ENVY, who is 105.1’s lead on-air personality.

“For the last five years, it’s been a dream of mine to formalize urban fitness in America,” said UFL CEO Ben Sturner. “The special event on the 4th of July will be an opportunity for fans to experience a taste of what’s to come next summer when the UFL debuts. Fans of all ages will be thunderstruck by the dynamic fusion of extreme calisthenics and music on the most famous boardwalk in the world.”

The concept of urban fitness began as creative calisthenics using only readily available equipment in outdoor parks and playgrounds in Brooklyn. What was initially an outlet to release the stress of everyday city living soon evolved into more organized competitions throughout New York City.  Eventually a unique pay-it-forward philosophy emerged called “Each One Teach One” whereby each participant shares skills and techniques with newcomers to the sport. This led to even further growth into a formidable lifestyle movement that is currently sweeping the globe.
