Under Armour has custom-designed uniforms with a retro flashback theme for Boston College. These uniforms take inspiration from the “Miracle in Miami,” – Doug Flutie’s last-second touchdown pass to Gerard Phelan in the 1984 Orange Bowl.
The throwback uniforms will hit the field this weekend as Boston faces off against Notre Dame at Boston’s Fenway Park.
The inspirational Flutie pass is well known within college football for giving the No. 10 Eagles a 47-45 win over 12th-ranked Miami. Boston College finished that season with a 10-2 record, defeating Houston 45-28 in the Cotton Bowl on January 1, 1985.
The new design features a solid gold helmet with gold pants and jersey details to reflect the uniform color worn in the ’80s; the vintage Boston College logo placed on the shoulder (as it was worn during the 1985 Cotton Bowl victory); and a flashback stripe detail on the pants and baselayer.
Although not an exact replica of the uniforms, since Under Armour revamped the design to perform better (no more taping the waist to keep the pants on), these replica uniforms definitely bring back the nostalgia of a big win.
