In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Canadian government, Thule Group is recalling specific RideAlong rear-mounted child bike seats. The harness padding of the bike seats could contain flame-retardant DecaBDE over regulatory limits, posing a chemical hazard. DecaBDE could be toxic if ingested or come in contact with skin or eyes.
Approximately 8,640 units were sold in the U.S. and about 3,880 in Canada in gray with a black 3-point harness padding. Consumers can find the model number and date code on the bottom side of the seat. Only model number 100107 and date codes 21/3-23/10 (March 2021 to October 2023) are included in this recall.
Consumers should stop using the recalled RideAlong seat and contact Thule Group to register for free replacement harness padding and receive instructions on returning the recalled padding. Thule is contacting all known consumers.
There are no reported incidents or injuries.
The CPSC said the bike seats were sold at REI and baby stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and Thule.com from May 2017 through October 2023 for about $300.
