The Toggery Joins Grassroots Outdoor Alliance

The Toggery, which operates two outdoor specialty stores in Montana, has become the latest retail member of Grassroots Outdoor Alliance.

The Toggery dates back to 1947, when Frank and Jessie Stephens opened as the business as a men’s clothing store called Frank’s Shirt Shop in downtown Whitefish. In the coming years, with partners, Rusty and Louise Abell, Frank purchased The Toggery, a neighboring clothing store.

Frank’s son, Gary Stephens, began operating The Toggery in 1970. Over the course of the next 30 years, Gary broadened the store to offer both men's and women's clothing and footwear.

Since The Toggery opened its doors, customer service and quality products have always been the number one priority. Both Frank and Gary established the business to provide the best service.

This family tradition continues today. Trek Stephens and his wife Rene operate The Toggery and still claim service and quality as their top priority. They are elated to explain they have the most fun and energetic staff they have ever had. It demonstrates the family aspect of a 3rd generation business.

Trek and Rene express heartfelt thanks to all of their new and long-time customers. Trek explains, “Our business is about people. Every person who walks through the front door is part of our family.”

When asked why they decided to join Grassroots, Trek shared, “We are excited to join an elite group of retailers with the best reputations in the outdoor business.  Our goal is to learn, grow and adapt in this business to be successful for the long term.  I believe the networking with Grassroots retailers will help us to be better retailers and business owners.”
