The Lycra Company, a developer of sustainable fiber solutions for the global apparel industry, announced the launch of its bio-based Lycra EcoMade Fiber at the ISPO Munich trade fair, which will take place from December 3 to 5, 2024.

The company is showcasing samples, including renewable elastane, in Booth 101 in Hall 3 and offering attendees a fully immersive virtual reality experience to learn about the product. The company will also display the fiber in the Sustainability Center, Hall A2, and will be the subject of a presentation.

The bio-based fiber Lycra EcoMade is the recipient of two ISPO Textrends awards for FW 2026/27. This renewable elastane won a Top 5 Award in the Fibers and Insulation category, and a garment made from the same fabric received the Selection distinction in the Pants and Tights category. Live!, the Brazilian sports and swimwear brand, manufactured the fabric and leggings from the launch samples of this fiber.

With a planned launch in 2025, the company reported in a media release that “Lycra EcoMade bio-based fiber will become the largest renewable elastane commercialized at scale.” The product contains “70 percent renewable content and has earned USDA Bio-Preferred Program approval. The fiber delivers performance equivalent to the original Lycra fiber and requires no new fabric design, processes or garment patterns.”

“We believe Lycra EcoMade bio-based fiber represents an exciting future where we can drive truly transformative change without sacrificing performance,” said Steve Stewart, chief brand and innovation officer for The Lycra Company. “We are thrilled to receive this recognition from ISPO and congratulate our customer Live! for creating the award-winning fabric and garment.”

Live! is a sustainable clothing brand. Its UpFit capsule collection includes ISPO award-winning leggings, Bermuda shorts, a top, and a jumpsuit manufactured with the bio-based Lycra EcoMade fiber.

“At Live!, we believe that the future of fashion is about balancing innovation with environmental responsibility,” said Founder and Creative Director Joice Sens. “This collection embodies the spirit of Live! Future, our sustainable innovation lab, and highlights the importance of partnerships like the one with the Lycra brand, which allows us to develop products that combine cutting-edge technology with reduced impact.”

Steve Stewart will present All In: The Power of Partnership at ISPO’s Green Stage on December 4 at 16:00 CET. His presentation explains how collaboration was critical in commercializing Lycra EcoMade bio-based fiber and its launch into the market.
