The Clymb, the fastest growing online retailer of outdoor and active lifestyle gear, apparel and adventure travel, is pleased to announce its inclusion at number 11 on the 2013 Best Small and Medium Workplaces List. The tenth annual list compiled by the Great Place to Work Institute, a global consulting and training firm, is honoring The Clymb for its outstanding company culture and its dedication to ensuring employees maintain a healthy work-life balance.

The Great Place to Work list recognizes the top 50 small and medium sized companies in the United States with exceptional workplace cultures. The list includes companies operating in a wide range of industries and geographic regions across the United States. Employee survey responses count for two-thirds of each company’s total score. The remaining third of the score comes from the Great Place to Work Institute’s evaluation of companies in five areas: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie.

“Employee satisfaction is paramount here at The Clymb, which is why we place such an emphasis on maintaining a distinctive company culture that facilitates a healthy work life balance,” states Teija Springman, director of employee experience at The Clymb. “Our dedication to employee satisfaction allows us to attract and maintain the best talent possible, not to mention it makes the office a pretty fun place to work.”

When it comes to health and wellness, working for The Clymb offers some very impressive perks. Employees who ride their bikes to work get free in-house tune-ups and storage for their bikes and gear. All Clymbers are also offered free in-house yoga classes and guided meditations on a weekly basis and discounted memberships to various fitness, climbing and spinning gyms near the office. The Clymb’s ping-pong table and in-office slack line are great resources for workday respites and a fully stocked Gear Library provides employees with free gear and equipment, further encouraging them to partake in activities and adventures outside of office hours. Beyond all that, the office kitchen is constantly stocked with healthy snacks to keep energy and productivity levels high.

At Clif Bar, employees are offered monetary funds to apply toward buying hybrid cars, taking public transportation to work, making eco-friendly home improvements and visiting state and national parks. In 2012, Clif celebrated 20 years in business by giving every single person in the company a commuter bike. To support environmental and other community causes they believe in, workers can take as much paid time off work as they want to volunteer. In 2012, Clif’s 340 employees collectively donated over 8,100 hours to more than 200 nonprofits. The company also supports employees’ personal well-being – they get 2.5 hours of paid time per week to work out in a company gym staffed by five personal trainers.

Tasked with managing and maintaining The Clymb’s company culture is the Employee Experience team. This team acts as a sounding board and advocate for all employees at The Clymb and ensures all feedback and suggestions are taken into consideration. This team continually works with executives, managers and employees alike to determine new, exciting procedures, rewards and benefits that improve the overall company culture and workplace experience.
