The Buckle, Inc. reported same-store sales in May rose 7.2 percent with strong double-digit gains in women’s sales and l0w-single-digit growth in men’s. Total net sales for the four-week fiscal month increased 7.8 percent to $88.4 million compared to net sales of $82.0 million in the year-ago period.

In its sales commentary, Buckle said Men’s sales increased 1.0 percent with overall price points on the men’s side of the business up about 2.5 percent. The men’s business represented approximately 52.0 percent of total sales for the month.

Women’s sales jumped 17.5 percent with overall price points increasing about 4.0 percent. The women’s business represented approximately 48.0 percent of total sales for the month.

Within the Men’s and Women’s categories combined, Accessory sales for the fiscal month increased approximately 6.0 percent year-over-year while Footwear sales also increased 6.0 percent. These two categories accounted for approximately 11.5 percent and 6.0 percent, respectively, of the month. Average accessory price points for the month were up about 1.5 percent, and average footwear price points increased approximately 8.0 percent.

For the month, UPT’s (units per transaction) decreased approximately 1.5 percent while the average transaction value increased about 1.0 percent over the year-ago period.

Comparable store net sales year-to-date for the 17-week period ended May 31 increased 4.0 percent. Net sales advanced 4.7 percent to $360.5 million compared to $344.5 million a year ago.
