Mark Taylor, outdoors editor of The Roanoke (Va.) Times, was elected third vice president of Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA). The association's board of directors elected Taylor at its recent conference in Grand Rapids, MI.

“Mark Taylor brings a special kind of work-together attitude and optimism to the board,” said Kevin Rhoades, executive director of the 1,300-member outdoors media group. “Mark's peers recognize his skill and commitment and 'can-do' outlook to help drive the association ahead. I look forward to working with Mark in a leadership role.”

In addition to his promotion from board member to officer, the board of directors honored Taylor with the 2009 Outstanding Board Member Award, awarding the honor after Taylor's first year on the board.

“We all know these are challenging times in the rapidly evolving media business,” Taylor said. “I'd say they're exciting times, too. Those of us who are committed to the important industry of outdoors communication will help shape the future of this business sector and, really, of outdoors recreation in general. I'm really looking forward to helping OWAA refine our strategy and offerings so we can help our members and supporters thrive in the new atmosphere.”
