Sympatex Technologies, which develops, manufactures and sells membranes, laminates and textiles used in outdoor apparel and footwear, has appointed Derek Spingler vice president for North America.

Spingler, 42, is responsible for overall sales and marketing management with a special focus on creating and expanding existing and new business relations in Apparel, Footwear and Contract & Workwear.

Spingler founded and built First Light Anglers, which he ran for the last 18 years acting as the director of sales and marketing. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with the development and design of products for the outdoor, fishing and fly fishing industries.

“Having worked in and developed products for the outdoors and the particularly harsh marine environment, Sympatex offers a unique and dynamic product line for a huge range of applications with very compelling physical properties associated with their membranes and laminates, Spingler said.

Spingler succeeds Stephen Kerns, the previous vice president for Sympatex Technologies Inc. who is now heading for a new professional challenge while also helping with transition to Derek.

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation for Stephen’s special commitment and his outstanding professional dedication and achievements for Sympatex,” said Michael Kamm, CEO of Sympatex Technologies. “In the past four years, he has greatly contributed to the enormous expansion of Sympatex in the U.S. and in Canada. We wish him all the best in his private life and as much success with his future business ventures as he enjoyed with Sympatex.”
