According to The Oregonian, students from four Oregon colleges left a petition on Tuesday at Adidas America in North Portland asking for disputed $1.8 million in severance pay for 2,800 factory workers in Indonesia.
Separate petitions were also delivered to an Adidas office in England and at Adidas AG corporate headquarters in Germany, said United Students Against Sweatshops, one of the petition organizers.
According to the report, 16 students were prevented from entering the Adidas America building in Portland and left a box with more than 600 pages of signatures with a person outside. The students were from from Western Oregon University, Portland State University, University of Oregon and Lane Community College.
Workers' rights advocates contend Adidas owes severance that other apparel brands have paid after the bankrupt factory owner closed the PT Kizone factory.
