Exercise may just be the miracle pill for cancer and cardiovascular disease associated with alcohol-intake, according to a new study published in The British Journal of Sports Medicine on August 31, 2016.
The study pooled analysis of eight British population cohorts from England and Scotland, examining whether physical activity moderates the association between alcohol intake and all-cause mortality, cancer mortality and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) mortality.
First of all, a direct association between alcohol consumption and cancer mortality risk starting from drinking was seen to be present, however among those individuals who met the recommended physical activity recommendations the associating between alcohol intake and mortality risk was attenuated or nearly nullified.
The study concluded, “Meeting the current PA public health recommendations offsets some of the cancer and all-cause mortality risk associated with alcohol drinking.”
