Stein Mart, Inc. reported same-store sales during August dropped 5.2%.
Total sales fell 3.3% to $92.5 million from $95.7 million.
During August, comparable stores sales were positive in ladies' casual
clothing and social occasion/dresses, with continued strong performance
in the special sizes and intimate apparel areas that were expanded last
year.
In the 30-week year-to-date period, sales inched ahead 0.3% to
$799.4 million from $796.8 million, but fell 2 percent on a
comparable-store basis.
In August, two new stores (in the greater Charlotte and Raleigh, NC
markets) were opened, the Roanoke, VA store was relocated, and a store
in Longview, TX was closed. On September 1, there were 271 Stein Mart
locations, compared to 261 stores last year.
