Continuing its support of performance mountain biking SRAM Corporation has signed on to be the official drivetrain supplier to the worlds definitive mountain bike park Whistler. The Park is located in the Coastal Mountain Range 1 1/2 hours North of Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. Whistler is the established world leader in mountain biking facilities, programming, events, and trail design.
In 2004 SRAM equipped bikes will constitute Whistlers 105 rental bikes, which see over 1,000,000 vertical feet annually. SRAM will also outfit the 20 official guide bikes with X-Generation componentry. The park saw over 62,000 rider days in 2003, that number is expected to grow this year. SRAM will offer technical support for specific events as well as sponsor the “Phat Wednesday” weekly race series. Phat Wednesday is a weekly competition that includes the extremely popular Chainless Downhill race along with other gravity events.
“The Whistler Mountain Bike Park is thrilled that SRAM has chosen to become an Official Supplier,” states Rob McSkimming, Managing Director of Whistler Mountain Bike Park. McSkimming adds “this year SRAM drivetrain will be used exclusively on the Park's guide and rental bikes. The fleet is the largest of its kind in the world and we have full confidence that SRAM's performance components will be more than up to meeting that challenge, as our recent “Garbanzo” expansion will more than triple the Park's vertical to 3,400 feet.”
Whistlers bikes will be equipped with SRAMs X-Generation components including the award-winning X.9 Trigger Shifters featuring Impulse Technology. The Triggers will be matched with the top performing X.O and X.9 rear derailleurs as well as SRAM PowerChains and PowerGlide II Cassettes.
