The Canadian agricultural co-op that has signed an MOU to buy Utah-based Sportsman's Warehouse expects to eventually combine the chain with a Canadian chain it bought earlier this year under a single brand, according to a report by NewWest.net.

UFA Co-operative Limited of Alberta has no plans to close down or downsize Sportsman's Warehouse headquarters in Midvale, Utah or move it to Canada. Instead, it will combine the company with Calgary-based Wholesale Sports of Canada, UFA’s President and CEO Dallas Thorsteinson told New West. Thorsteinson said the merged company would likely remain based in the Salt Lake City area.

Thorsteinson said expansion is more likely in Canada, where there is less competition. Sportsman's Warehouse currently has 67 stores in the United States, while Wholesale Sports has just seven in Canada.
