Sports Direct, the UK retailer controlled by Mike Ashley, sold its
entire stake in Amer Sports for 166.6 million ($242 mm). The retailer
has made a profit of around £25 millioin since first buying into the
Helsinki-listed group in June and raising its stake to 12% in
September. At the time it said it was a “strategic investment.”
The proceeds of the sale will reduce group borrowings according to a
prepared statement issued by the company. Since Sports Direct's
flotation in February, it has acquired the U.S. boxing equipment
manufacturer Everlast, a 60% stake in Field & Trek, and a 25% stake
in Umbro.
