Sports Authority said it is removing all candy products from their 465 stores to better promote healthy lifestyles.
Statistics show that about 33% of U.S. adults and 17% of children and adolescents are obese. With this initiative, Sports Authority aims to become the most prominent nutritional advocate in the sporting goods industry.
Sports Authority offers nutritious snacks and beverages from a wide variety of vendors like PowerBar, Clif/Luna, Myoplex, Honey Stingers, Muscle Milk, Nature Valley, Nuun and GU which will consist of an assortment of gels, chews, bars, powders, shakes and electrolyte drink products.
“This is just one of many initiatives we have underway to attack obesity, especially in our youth,” said Jeff Schumacher, chief marketing 0fficer, Sports Authority. “At Sports Authority, we believe in all things sporting good, and are committed to the overall health and well-being of our customers.”
