Imports of camping, apparel and gear declined by $88 million, or 10.8 percent, to $724 million, in August from July, or more than in 26 of 30 other consumer goods categories measured by the U.S. Census Bureau.



Toys, games and Sporting goods and footwear imports took the sixth and seventh spots, dropping by $56 million (2.0 percent) and $30 million (18.3 percent) respectively from July to August. Imports of apparel and household goods dropped 5.7 percent. By comparison, imports of all consumer goods declined by $667 million, or 9.4 percent.

 

Through the first eight months of 2013, imports of camping apparel and gear were still running $324 million, or 0.5 percent, ahead of the same period in 2012, while imports of toys, games and sporting goods were off by $532 million, or 2.4 percent and footwear imports were up $429 million, or 3.4 percent.
