Speedo has signed a four-year agreement with USA Triathlon to become its official swimwear, uniform, and competition apparel through 2009. The brand will be worn by Team USA triathletes at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, expanding Speedos presence at the Olympic Games to a record eight sports overall.
USA Triathlon is the national governing body for triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, and winter triathlon in the United States. USAT sanctions 1,800 races and connects with more than 70,000 members each year, making it the largest multi-sport organization in the world.
As part of the agreement, Speedo will also sponsor USA Triathlon National Teams, USA Triathlon-owned Championship races, select Grand Prix events, and the new Haul to the Great Wall Triathlon Series.
“Triathletes represent the ideal Speedo consumer-early users of performance technology who are dedicated to their passion,” said Sheree Waterson, President Speedo North America. “The USA Triathlon platform allows Speedo to connect with these incredible athletes at the elite and recreational level.”
“We are pleased to introduce Speedo as a sponsor of USA Triathlon as it reinforces its commitment and dedication to the multi-sport lifestyle,” said Skip Gilbert, CEO and Executive Director of USA Triathlon. “We look forward to growing our partnership, and our brands, together this year and in the years to come.”
“Speedo has helped me perform at the top of my game for years,” said Olympian and Team Speedo triathlete Andy Potts. “By partnering with USA Triathlon, Speedo will be able to further its technical advances.”
In addition to Potts, Team Speedo triathletes include Chris Lieto, Joanna Zeiger, Sarah Haskins, Candy Angle, Dede Griesbauer and Sara McLarty. Team Speedo triathletes continue in a research and development partnership with the Speedo Aqualab to develop tri-suits.
