Soles4Souls has filed a lawsuit against Gleaning for the World, Inc. and other parties after Soles4Souls discovered that donated pairs of Minnetonka Moccasins that were supposed to be distributed to needy people in Africa were being sold for profit on eBay.
Soles4Souls filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Nashville, TN.
Selling the shoes for profit goes directly against the distribution agreement signed by both parties on May 17, 2007, which stated “[Gleaning] agrees that it will neither offer for sale, sell, transfer, nor barter the products supplied by [Soles4Souls] in exchange for money, other negotiable instruments, or other tangible or intangible goods or services…”
The lawsuit, filed Dec. 11, 2008, states that through a string of transfers, the shoes were eventually sold for $6,500.00 to Jeanne S. Re, who then sold some of the shoes on eBay.
