SMT Golf, a maker of custom golf clubs, has announced that they will no longer be accepting used clubheads. In a press release, the company said it was too difficult and time consuming to refurbish and recycle used clubs and that too many customers had taken advantage of the service.

“We have brought in roughly 45,000 clubs and clubheads and spend almost 2500 man-hours refurbishing the pieces that were worth saving,” president Mike Tait stated in the release.

Tait added that the company was taking steps to bring better quality equipment to golfers, and SMT Golf expects to increase its percentage of useable equipment from 5% to a full 100% while reducing the amount of time put into refurbishing clubs.

“For all of those that think OEM (original equipment manufacturer) equipment holds its value over components, well, we clearly just put that myth to rest,” concluded Tait, “as we are now paying you far more than what you can buy at brand new.”
