On Thursday, April 6, Skullcandy, the audio brand, kicked off the first tour stop of the STAYLOUD Showdown series – a premier platform for emerging artists to win the opportunity to perform on the Skullcandy stage at this summer’s Vans Warped Tour.

The first round of competition took place at The Berrics, the iconic skate park located in Los Angeles. Three LA-based up-and-coming bands, Forget Your Friends, The Knits, and Kid Bloom performed against the urban-inspired backdrop of the private indoor skate park owned by legendary pro skaters, Steve Berra and Eric Koston. To close out the night, one of Billboard’s “10 New Artists You Need to Know”, Lewis Del Mar, gave an electrifying performance that lived up to the hype.

The winners of the first STAYLOUD Showdown series are Forget Your Friends. They stunned the crowd, dominated online voting, and secured their place as Skullcandy’s STAYLOUD Showdown Los Angeles representative.

“Our goal for the series is to provide a platform that creates awareness for talented emerging bands across the country. It’s exciting to see how enthusiastic and supportive our community reacted to the first STAYLOUD Showdown event,” said Skullcandy’s CEO, Jason Hodell. “We received far more online votes than expected and a surprisingly large influx of submissions from incredible bands looking to catch their big break.”

The next stop in the STAYLOUD Showdown is on May 16th at The Mohawk in Austin, Texas, before the series moves to its final stop at The Knitting Factory in New York on June 6th. Hopeful bands looking for a shot at the stage can submit their applications through Skullcandy’s website.
