SKECHERS USA announced it has signed a worldwide licensing agreement with TapouT, the mixed martial arts (MMA) apparel, gear and lifestyle brand. The new TapouT footwear line is launching as a focused men’s collection available in select department and specialty stores across North America.

Working with the TapouT design team to maintain the voice of the brand, SKECHERS said it will design, develop and market footwear to be sold under the iconic TapouT brand name. All styles featured in the line will be inspired by the MMA culture and designed to enhance the passion and attitude of TapouT fans worldwide.

“We’ve wanted to launch TapouT footwear for a very long time because our fans have been asking for it,” explained Mask. “And with the footwear industry experience and wherewithal of SKECHERS, we can finally bring it to the eager masses in and around the ‘octagon’.”

“The TapouT crew has found incredible success bringing their brand to MMA fans-some of the most devoted of any sport,” began Michael Greenberg, president of SKECHERS. “Thanks to the strength of the TapouT brand within that culture, this exciting new partnership will expand our house of brands into an emerging segment where we don’t currently compete.”

TapouT, founded in 1997 by owners Mask and Punkass, has become a $100 million empire. The company recently announced licensing agreements to expand their children’s and accessories line for 2009.
