ShopKo Stores consolidated sales for the four weeks ended July 31, 2004 decreased 0.9% to $222.5 million from $224.6 million during the same period last year. Consolidated comparable store sales decreased 0.6%.

      reflects sales from two closed Pamida locations and one new location
      in FY 2004.

      ShopKo division total sales variance reflects sales from one closed
      ShopKo location in FY 2004.

Consolidated comparable store sales for the month of August are expected to be in the positive low single digit range.
