Shoe Carnival, Inc. reported sales for the five-week period ended October 4, 2003, increased 11.7% to $44.4 million from sales of $39.8 million for the five-week period ended October 5, 2002. Comparable store sales increased 1.8% in September 2003.
Sales for the first eight months of 2003 increased 9.1 percent to $385.8 million from sales of $353.7 million for the first eight months of 2002. Comparable store sales decreased 1.9 percent for the 35-week period.
The Company also announced the opening of five stores in September, one each in Viera, FL (Orlando Market); Davenport, IA; Orland Park, IL (Chicago Market); Houston, TX and Norfolk, VA. Additionally, a store in Janesville, WI was closed in September.
