The SGMA has teamed up with Americans Saving American Places to launch a 140 day campaign, between earth day and Labor Day, to persuade President Bush to keep his promise to fully fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The “Sign it This Summer” campaign has set a goal of collecting at least one million signatures.
Forty years ago, the U.S. Government created the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which has created more than 40,000 parks all across America. This tool sets aside just under 20% of federal offshore oil and gas leasing receipts for use in protecting America's great outdoors, and is currently in jeopardy of being under-funded.
According to the SGMA, with full funding of the LWCF in place, Americans will have more safe and accessible recreation opportunities than ever before. This will in turn dramatically improve the sports, recreation, and little league communities.
