The racquetball industry is taking steps to increase its visibility. To achieve this objective, the SGMA’s Racquetball Manufacturers Council (RMC) has hired Dave George of San Bruno, California, as its Project Coordinator.

In this newly created position, George will act as a liaison between the “Racquetball Community” and the RMC. He will coordinate many new, ground-breaking studies which will help the RMC quantify the sport of racquetball, analyze the sport’s weaknesses, and support its growth areas. These studies will include the following:

  1. a national court club survey;
  2. a collection of current court club data;
  3. the printing of a new 2004 Racquetball Programmers’ Book to be used by owners, managers and pros in order to help them grow racquetball;
  4. the development of an official website for the RMC, (www.playracquetball.org); and,
  5. mobilizing the certified AmPRO instructors and sponsored players throughout the country, in assisting clubs and facilities with racquetball court programs.

George has over 25 years of racquetball-related experience. Currently, he is the Racquetball Director at Fitness West SportsClubs in the San Francisco Bay area. His racquetball experiences run the gamut. They include being an AmPRO clinician, active player, coach, club manager and club pro. George’s athletic background and experience includes earning a B. A. in physical education, coaching intercollegiate racquetball, being a former California AARA (American Amateur Racquetball Association) state president, and earning his USPTA (U. S. Professional Tennis Association) teaching certificate. He is a lifetime member of AmPRO and the U.S. Racquetball Association (USRA).

“My ambitions and the RMC’s mission statement are the same – ‘Dedicated to growing the sport of racquetball!’ ” said George. “I look forward to filling this position to the best of my ability. I cherish the opportunity to be in such a great position to really make a difference in the sport of racquetball. It is exciting to see a real racquetball renaissance emerging.”

“By naming George to this post, the entire racquetball industry will benefit from having one experienced individual who is dedicated to increasing the participation opportunities for those interested in the sport,” said RMC Chairman Scott Winters (Ektelon). “Dave has years of experience which he brings to the table and he is passionately committed to the future of racquetball.”
