Sebago has supported the International Dragon Class at their Open British Championship, the Edinburgh Cup, sponsored by Belfast Harbour, which was hosted this week by the Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club in Cultra, Northern Ireland. Over three days of racing, forty five boats competed for the coveted Edinburgh Cup, and Sebago presented a pair of shoes to each of the winning three person crew selected by a competitor draw during the daily prize giving.

The British Dragon Class prides itself on the competitive quality and nature of the racing at the Edinburgh Cup. Over its sixty years, the event has seen forty-one different winners, nine of whom have come from outside the United Kingdom.  Belfast Lough provided challenging and closely fought racing with multiple individual race winners. The overall winner of the Edinburgh Cup was the local team of KIN helmed by Simon Brien- a very popular victory.

“We are really proud to be able to support the British Dragon Class,” said Adrienne Callaghan, Sebago Marketing Manager for Northern Europe. “The class has so much history and it is a pleasure to be able to provide their sailors with an authentic but practical boat shoe that complements the class. Being able to support an event which took place in Northern Ireland is a good move for us in extending our brands reach in the UK.”

The Chairman of the British Dragon Association, Martin Makey, commented on the partnership between the British Dragon Association and Sebago:

“The partnership between the British Dragon Association and Sebago is an excellent one as they complement each other: the premiere keel boat teaming up with the premiere marine footwear brand. We look forward to developing our relationship and working more with Sebago in the future.”

Simon Brien, head of the organising committee for the 2012 Edinburgh Cup, and the overall winner of the event commented:

“The 2012 Dragon Edinburgh Cup was a resounding success with 45 boats taking part, making it the biggest Edinburgh Cup in 25 years, with competitors from 10 nations.

The Dragon Class is regarded as the pinnacle of One Design keelboat racing in Europe, with many of the World’s best sailors regularly competing. Sebago have been an exceptional association for both the Edinburgh Cup and the International Dragon Class, as Sebago are regarded in the world of sailing as the best for sailing footwear, and would be the choice of many of the competitors for both sailing and shore side footwear.”
