Scheels opened its largest store on Saturday, and what it’s calling the world’s largest sporting goods store. The 295,000-square-foot Scheels at The Legends at Sparks Marina, Nev., a city of 90,000 near Reno.
The store includes two 16,000-gallon aquariums, a wildlife mountain, customer tram, ferris wheel, shooting gallery, simulators for golf, hockey, and soccer, home decor and gift lodges, specialized shops for guns and hunting, fishing, running, and fashion sportswear. At the main entry, a full-size float plane swoops overhead and a hall of fame display featuring great athletic moments from the University of Nevada, Reno.
Scheels said it has hired over 500 people from the local area to work the store.
