Since its founding in 1968, Royal Robbins committed to protecting the environment by manufacturing eco-conscious clothing. The company announced its sustainability initiatives for 2021.
This season, Royal Robbin’s largest sustainability initiative is its adventure shirts made from 100 percent recycled materials— converting ten shirts in its men’s and women’s Expedition line to the recycled fabric used to create the shirts. In so doing, “the recycled poly for the Expedition ripstop versus virgin poly for solid colors reduced energy by 51.19 percent and CO2 emissions by 58.60 percent with each shirt upcycling about nine plastic bottles,” said Royal Robbins.
The company’s next focus area is curating a collection of lowest impact styles to make it easier for customers to choose sustainably, including new socks — 66 styles makeup 46 percent of its Spring 2021 line and are made primarily from natural fibers, including preferred cotton, recycled content, or responsibly sourced forest materials. By choosing preferred cotton, “Royal Robbins reduces its water usage while improving soil quality,” said the company.
In staying true to its sustainability roots, Royal Robbins is converting “roughly 75 percent of its cotton to preferred and 50 percent of its poly to recycled this year,” the brand continued. In 2021 and beyond, Royal Robbins will “increase its use of these low-impact materials that help conserve natural resources and reduce waste, chemicals and CO2 emissions.”
In addition, Royal Robbins and Conservation Alliance members will direct five percent of online sales to The Conservation Alliance from April 21-27 to honor its #WeKeepItWild campaign during the week of Earth Day.
