Ross Stores, Inc. reported sales of $417 million for the month of May, a 13% jump from $370 million during the same month last year. Comparable store sales for the month increased 5% on top of a 7% gain in the prior year.

For the four months ended May 27, 2006, sales were $1.708 billion, a 14% increase above the $1.494 billion in sales for the prior year’s comparable period ended May 28, 2005. Comparable store sales for the four-month period grew 6% on top of a 4% increase in the prior year.

In commenting on these results, Michael Balmuth, Vice Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, “We are pleased to report that same store sales in May performed slightly ahead of our forecast for a 3% to 4% increase. Looking ahead, we continue to project comparable store sales gains of 3% to 4% in June and 4% to 5% in July.”
