Retail Voodoo, the brand, packaging and in-store creative agency for outdoor and sporting good manufactures and retailers based in Seattle, has hired Ron Menconi as brand guide. Menconi was formerly VP of marketing and merchandising for the defunct Northwest sporting goods chain, G.I. Joe’s.

Menconi’s background as a trend identifier, merchandise and category manager, marketing and advertising maven, leader and inspirer of retail teams and creator of a unique culture brings his vision into full alignment with David Lemley, Retail Voodoo founder

An avid sports and outdoorsman, Menconi said in a statement, There is no secret (to success): hard work, dedication and a passion for what you do. . .and working with great people to turn a retailer into a disruptive force in the marketplace.

Retail Voodoo noted that Menconi helped convert G.I. Joes from a discounter to an outdoor specialty store by touching every aspect of the business. Added Menconi, Its all about understanding the customer as well as whats hot in regional and local markets. Linking customer passion for outdoor and athletic activities by aligning specific brands to them creates an opportunity to move toward cult status. It can be done for new brands. Even tired brands can be refreshed or totally repositioned if necessary. Hard work? You bet. Worth it? Release the hounds!
