Knight Rifles has announced to employees that it will shutter its doors, according to reports from several sources including The Outdoor Wire.

The reports indicate the announcement was made Friday, May 29th, but the company's web site has no information about the reported closure.

While firearms sales have been up across the board, increasing legislations that soften sanctions on crossbow hunting have likely presented a formidable challenge for companies like Knight that specialize in blackpowder guns and accessories.

Knight began in the mid-eighties when Tony Knight, an avid hunter and gunsmith from Missouri, developed the first modern day in-line muzzleloader. In 1997, the company introduced the popular Knight DISC rifle.

Sportsman's Business UPDATE was unable to confirm these reports with the company, but various source indicate that a press release will be issued shortly.
