According to Crain’s Detroit Business, Nike submitted plans to the U.S. Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification at 1261 Woodward Ave to mark Nike's first store in downtown Detroit.
The Detroit News said the three-story location aims to be “community-oriented” and one that hires at least 80 percent of its workers within a five-mile radius of the store.
The space would be about 19,500-square-feet and was registered for LEED certification in June. The location of the Nike Detroit store is a former Woolworth location and will be the 1261 Woodward Building in downtown Detroit.
A Nike store would be the latest upscale retailer along the formerly lackluster stretch of Woodward between Campus Martius and Grand Circus Park, according to the Detroit Free Press. Recent additions to that stretch include the upscale John Varvatos men's clothing store. In the past, the Moosejaw outdoor clothing and equipment store was opened nearby.
