Reuters is reporting that Nike’s launch of its planned NikeSkims activewear brand in the U.S. is delayed as the two companies work to perfect the product, according to a company spokesperson.
The co-branded effort, first announced in February 2025, is seen as a pathway to more women consumers. Still, many saw the move as running counter to the company’s efforts to connect with core female athletes, who were the clear focus in its Super Bowl LVIII advertising and recent comments from the company’s CEO, Elliot Hall.
“Nike, Inc. and Skims are teaming up to disrupt the global fitness and activewear industry with the launch of NikeSkims, a new brand that will deliver industry-leading innovation,” the company announced on Tuesday morning, February 18. “The long-term partnership will introduce an extensive product line that invites more athletes and women into the world of sport and movement.”
NikeSkims is a partnership between the performance athletic brand and Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand and is expected to include training apparel, footwear and accessories for women.
The Nike effort comes on the heels of a less ambitious, but no less provocative, move by The North Face and its Skims x The North Face collection that went live in December 2024 and reportedly sold out within hours after the launch.
Nike, Inc. had said that NikeSkims would debut its first collection in the U.S. “this Spring,” available online and in select retail locations, with a global rollout planned for 2026.
“We’re energized by the opportunity to build a new brand and shake things up for the next generation of athletes with NikeSkims,” offered Heidi O’Neill, president of consumer, product & brand at Nike, Inc. “This partnership brings together the best of both brands and unlocks an incredible opportunity to disrupt the industry with our shared passion and commitment to innovation. We will invite even more athletes into sport and movement with product that makes them feel strong and sexy.”
Skims, which launched in 2019, has seen growing demand for its premium bras, loungewear and shapewear.
Nike, Inc. will report its fiscal 2025 year-end results on Thursday, June 26.
