REI on Nov. 3 became the first merchant to make a national offer through Google Offer, the new online coupon service launched by Google, according to a Nov. 3 entry on a Google blog.

Google Offer is Google’s version of Groupon, a service that sends subscribers coupons and other discounts from a variety of local businesses. Google has rolled out the service in several major U.S. cities.

On Nov. 3, REI offered a $15 dollar Google Offer that could be redeemed for $25 in gear at rei.com or any of the co-op’s 120 brick-and-mortar stores.

“On the heels of our last update, the REI deal marks an important achievement for us in the growth of Google Offers by creating a truly national platform where businesses can connect with new customers whether they’re in San Francisco, Dallas, New York or Boston,” wrote Eric Rosenblum, director of product management for Google Offers.
Rosenblum also announced the release of Google Offers mobile app, that’s now available free for the Android market.
