Mares USA, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, will be recalling approximately 755 Mares Nemo Air Dive Computers sold in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.
Cause for concern amounted when the CPSC discovered a faulty O-ring in the high pressure air connector. Accordingly, the O-ring can fail and leak air, resulting in a steady, continuous loss of breathing gas. Along with causing divers to surface more quickly, the problem also poses a serious drowning hazard to users.
Manufactured in Italy and distributed from Mares USA in Boca Raton, FL, the air dive computers were sold in specialty dive shops nationwide from July 2008 through July 2009. The units ranged in price from $800-$900 (U.S.) and $880-$990 (Canadian).
While no injuries have been reported, Mares is urging consumers to cease use and return the product to an authorized Mares dive shop to assure a proper replacement is issued.
