Ambler Mountain Works Recalls Children's Knitted Hats Due to Choking Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Ambler Mountain Works announced a voluntary recall of the Erwin Beanie and Poseidon Beanie Children’s Knitted Hats. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

About 370 Erwin Beanie and Poseidon Beanie Children’s Knitted Hats were sold at specialty sports and ski shops nationwide from September 2008 through November 2008 for about $30.

The hazard occurs with the eyeballs on the Erwin Beanie and the octopus legs on the Poseidon Beanie, which can come loose and pose a potential choking hazard. The firm is aware of one incident involving the detachment of the legs of the octopus. No injuries have been reported.

The Erwin Beanie is primarily green and white yarn knitted to configure a frog with white eyeballs and a red smile. The Poseidon Beanie comes in several colors of yarn and has hand sewn turtles, whales and octopus attached to the beanie. The beanies have the firm’s logos “Ambler” or “A” printed on a fabric tag.

Consumers should immediately stop using the beanies and return them to Ambler Mountain for a free product replacement or cut off the frog’s eyes and the octopus legs and permanently dispose of them.
